American Flag Disposal Program

When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner
The City of Latrobe in conjunction with the Thomas B Anderson American Legion Post 515 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3414 have created a used flag disposal box.

Anyone with a faded, torn, or frayed American flag can drop off the flag in the receptacle outside of Latrobe City Hall at 901 Jefferson St. Latrobe. The box is located by the front door on Jefferson St and is painted red, white, and blue with “retired flags” printed on it.

The American Legion will collect the flags on a regular basis and add them to their flag burning ceremony. New flags can be purchased at the VFW at 204 Spring St, Latrobe.

A very special thank you to the company who constructed the disposal box for the City, they did not charge for their services and wish to remain anonymous. Another thank you to Latrobe Car Quest who graciously provided the paint and materials for the box, Signs in One Day for their contribution, and Jim Weiers who prepared the box construction drawings.
